Is Shoulder Replacement Easier Than Knee Replacement?

Is Shoulder Replacement Easier Than Knee Replacement?

In general, yes. If you average out a thousand people that have had their shoulder and their knee replaced, um, at least 70 to 80% of the shoulder replacements will have had a quicker, simpler, less painful recovery with a better overall outcome in terms of how much better their joint feels now.

Knee replacements work great, and people are very happy with them, but they are a little bit trickier to get perfect than a shoulder. I think early on, they probably hurt more because you have to be loading it, right? You’re walking on your knee where your shoulder is. We let people move right away, but you do not have to load it with as much force right away. I think that helps with just a faster recovery and less pain.

However, in terms of pain relief function, etc., total shoulders have a higher overall outcome than total knees.
