Typically, what they want to know most is what recovery will be like. How quickly can I use my arm? Right away. How quickly can I drive? Right away. When am I going to be able to get back to all my activities in life? Roughly three months.
What are my restrictions after surgery? Don’t lift more than 5 lbs. That’s it. What’s rehab going to be like? You can do it on your own. You can go in person. We do it virtually.
People have a long list of questions, and we have tons of videos on our website. One of them is a 25-minute shoulder arthroplasty video that I made. That video answers 99% of patients’ questions about their surgery. But those are the main ones.
It focuses on what life will be like right after the surgery. How much pain am I going to be in? Very little. Um, and then, what restrictions will you put on me when it’s done? No. And so most of the answers we give them are things they want to hear.
