How Difficult Is Recovery from Shoulder Replacement Surgery?

How Difficult Is Recovery from Shoulder Replacement Surgery?

It’s not nearly as difficult as most patients who have had it done thought it would be.

After about a week or two, most people have less pain than before surgery and can move their arms very quickly. We don’t force people to wear slings. We allow early active motion after shoulder replacement surgery.

So most patients tell us, “The recovery was not nearly as bad as I thought. And I wish that I would have done this years before because I had this fear that I was going to be laid up for months and months and months and not be able to use my arm. I could use my arm right away. I had way less pain right away and was back to the majority of my activities very soon after the surgery, without nearly as much pain as I thought I was going to have to go through to get this problem fixed.”
