The answer is yes.
In 99% of surgeon’s practice, the subscapularis tendon in the front of the shoulder is cut and then reattached. It’s part of your rotator cuff. The biceps tendon is typically released as well. The long head, biceps.
We have a newer technique where we don’t have to cut the subscapularis, leave it attached, and do a muscle-sparing approach in certain patients with certain types of arthritis. There are very few surgeons in the world that are doing that.
Our practice is maybe one out of five surgeons in the US and maybe even in the world who use that technique out of tens of thousands who use the standard technique. If you’re interested in learning more about it and seeing if you would be a candidate, let us know, and we’ll be happy to discuss it.
