Typically, about an hour.
Our procedure times are quick. Most of the surgeries we do are 30 minutes or less. People say. “How?” I tell them it’s volume. If you do something thousands and thousands of times, you get more efficient. Because of the techniques and the technologies we use, the procedures are quick, and we get you back to recovery.
Nowadays, we use long-acting nerve blocks that last a day or two. When patients wake up, the nurses in the PAC-U and the post-operative or post-operative care unit need minimal pain control.
Basically, you wake up, and they go through the instructions, which we’ve already gone through ad nauseam beforehand to make sure your family knows, which we’ve also gone through with them, and home you go.
Typically, I call the family right after surgery, literally the second I’m done. I call families, and I say, “Hey, we just got done, but expect a phone call in about 45 minutes from the nurses in recovery, and then you guys will be going home.
