It can vary from 1 to 2 days to 20 years or 30 years. It’s highly variable.
But you do see cases where people have pinched nerves that have been bothering them for 15, 20, or 30 years—a couple of days and everything in between.
The first step is if you think you have a pinched nerve in the shoulder, you really believe you have it. If it’s horrible, go in and get seen, especially if you can’t sleep and function. It’s really impacting your life.
Go in and get seen by either a spine specialist, a shoulder specialist, or both. If it’s mild, take anti-inflammatories, rest it, give it a few days, and see if it settles down. But it’s a good idea to make sure that if it’s impacting your life negatively, that is the diagnosis. Then, you can figure out ways to treat it and get it to go away faster.
