What do I need at home after shoulder surgery? Nothing special, honestly. No special equipment is needed, and no special devices are needed.
People focus on having to have a recliner. You don’t need to sleep in a recliner. We recommend against it. We have ways that you could sleep in your bed. You could put some pillows up behind your back and under your arm. There is no special equipment for your toilets or anything like that.
The amount of disability you have after shoulder surgery in people’s minds is built up way higher than what it is. For our patients with our practice, right after shoulder surgery, we allow gentle active motion for all activities of daily living right after the surgery because we know that that will not impact their outcome negatively.
They’re not risking damaging what we did. They’re not going to mess up the surgery if they do that. It makes their life a thousand times easier by allowing them to do those things.
